Data gathering with reference to fruit fly concentration and its damage to the mangoes in Uganda’s fruit growing areas like Nwoya and Soroti districts is in progress. The on-going process further aims to examine the prevailing Weather patterns and analyse the farmers’ readiness to handling the fruit fly plague.
Claire Abigaba, one of the Masters students sponsored by AdEMNEA Project at the college of Agriculture and Environmental Science (CAES), Makerere University explores the Impact of weather parameters on population of fruit flies specifically, deploying fruit fly traps and conducting surveys.
“I have stationed a couple of traps in specific fruit fly areas, I intent to conduct several interviews with several fruit growers.” Claire disclosed.
The astute meteorologist plans to press forward and oversee the data analysis phase which will culminate in thesis writing and publication before concluding her intense masters research study.
